Summary
A letter describing the different legal possibilities of the Comte de la Pasture as a French alien on British soil.
Notes
- Correspondence of G.G. Ducarel regarding his daughter Elizabeth, Betsy, and her two brief marriages. In 1793, Great Britain passed the Alien Act to regulate the numbers of refugees fleeing the French Revolution and check for enemy spies. All aliens were required to be recorded and registered, and the government had incredible power to deport aliens or hold them without bail.
