Summary

Letter of recommendation for Yomtov Lipman Rakow for positions serving as teacher of Hebrew, Rabbinic studies, and Judaics in Germany; Rakow (1884-1950), from Uzda, Belarus (a town southwest of Minsk) taught Hebrew and Rabbinic studies first at the Torah Lehranstalt (headed by Salomon Breuer, who died months before this manuscript in July 1926) and of Jakob Hoffmann, both in Frankfurt; Rakow was to escape Germany at the outbreak of World War II and served as Rosh yeshivah in London (his son, Betzalel Rakow (1927-2003) was a rabbi in Gateshead, England, and head of the Council of Torah Sages, Agudath Israel of Great Britian). Jakob Hoffmann translated (and added to) the letter into German (below Bloch's autograph) and undersigned, dated 24 December 1926. Typed portion in 5 lines; written portion in 9 lines.
